Ceiling, Wall Board and Access Panel Removal Standard
Work process
Standard that clarifies supervisor attendance, photo records and prohibited acts to prevent accidents, damage and existing-defect disputes. For the notice, see notice page.
1. Purpose
To prevent accidents, damage and existing-defect disputes in ceiling/wall board and access panel removal and restoration. Access panels shall be removed as a rule. Supervisor attendance and photo records are mandatory.
2. Supervisor Role
Removal work must be carried out with a supervisor in attendance. The supervisor is dedicated to safety and surrounding confirmation; in principle the supervisor does not focus on performing the work.
3. Pre-Work Confirmation
Before starting, carry out: protection of at least 1 m around; confirmation of protection for fixtures and precision equipment; no work underneath; fall measures; step-ladder stability; work scope determined.
4. Photo Records (Before / Existing / Surrounding)
Before removal: full view, close-up of existing damage/soiling, surrounding conditions. Record any existing damage.
5. Prohibited
The following are prohibited
- No work standing on top step of step-ladder
- No sideways stance
- No removal in forced posture
- No tool handling that may cause dropping
- No leaning removed materials against walls
6. Fall and Damage Prevention
Hold with both hands in principle when removing. Large boards: two or more persons. Temporary placement away from work area with no foot traffic. Removed materials: lay flat and protect. Collect screws and hardware; do not place directly on floor.
7. Above-Ceiling Confirmation
Check contact with ducts, wiring, sprinklers; interference with other trades; dust measures if cutting/processing needed.
8. Restoration Confirmation
Confirm original position/orientation, screw tightening, looseness, cracks/chips, access panel open/close. Supervisor performs final confirmation.
9. Post-Work Photos (Before/After)
After restoration: full view and finish confirmation. Before-and-after records must be kept.
