[Notice] Step-Ladder Carrying and Handling Rules

Step-ladder carrying and handling shall be unified as follows.
Applies to all sites.

1. Basic Principle

  • Do not carry the step-ladder on your shoulder
  • Do not place it on your shoulder
  • Do not drag it sideways

Step-ladders must always be carried with both hands in front of the body.

2. Conditions for Solo Carry

Solo carry is permitted only when all of the following are satisfied:

  • Adequate passage width is secured
  • No fixtures or equipment posing contact risk nearby
  • No premium interior (glass, marble, displays, etc.) in close proximity
  • Stable posture with front hold is possible

If it cannot be carried safely in this posture, two-person carry is required.

3. Two-Person Carry Rules

For two-person carry, always carry with one person in front and one behind.

  • Front person: Check direction of travel and footing
  • Rear person: Check clearance to left, right and above

Observe the following:

  • Stop at corners
  • Always call out before crossing steps or level changes
  • When passage is narrow, secure the route before moving

Verbal communication is mandatory. Examples: "Right OK", "Left caution", "Ceiling caution", "Step ahead", "Stop".

4. High-Risk Site Exception

On sites that fall under the following, two-person carry is mandatory:

  • Glass floor
  • Marble, tile or other high-value materials nearby
  • Display or fixture dense areas
  • Sites with many workers from other companies

Bring in only after protection and passage confirmation are complete.

5. Role of Person in Charge

Before step-ladder bring-in, the person in charge shall confirm:

  • Bring-in route is secured
  • Presence or absence of contact risk
  • Other companies’ traffic flow

Do not allow carrying when confirmation is insufficient.
